EPIM students plant a garden and watch it grow !
Our Aix-en-Provence school is happy to announce several additions to it's Luynes campus ... 4 new garden plots!
[14/10/2011]
Our plots
were delivered this week and placed in the outdoor play area for the enjoyment
of all. Each class will have their own garden plot to learn how to garden, to
harvest, to appreciate and respect the earth and living things.
EPIM wishes
to play the same role as over hundreds of American schools in the Edible Schoolyard Project started by American
author, chef, and founder of the non-profit organisation, Chez Panisse Foundation, Alice Waters. Our garden plot supplier
worked with her for over 3 years in California
promoting the movement of garden plots used in schools for educational
purposes. The project started in 1995 on a one-acre garden plot and kitchen
classroom at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Berkeley, California.
The
project's goal in California
is to promote a healthy lifestyle of wholesome nutritional eating for the
national curriculum. For EPIM, it acts as a reinforcement of current ideals of
eating healthy fruits and vegetables that are both seasonal and local. We take
pride in our lunch supplier who shares these same values.
We are
looking forward to see what the students decide to plant as a group and can't
wait for their first harvest. We are sure it will be delicious!
