Mr. Jean-Paul de Gaudemar,
Rector of the Aix-Marseille Academy, took part in the debate, surrounded by the
representatives and directors of the various institutions concerned, such as
the ITER Project (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), the
British and American consulates, Georges Duby International Lycée in Luynes,
the various middle schools in the Aix-Marseille region with international
sections, IBS in Luynes, as well as the EPIM.
The debate was defined in terms of
the questions:
-
What are parents asking for in terms of bilingual schools in our region?
-
What schools do we currently have to offer?
-
What are the options for children leaving our schools to continue their
education?

Participating in the debate, the
EPIM stressed the distinction between:
1- Middle schools offering a 'bi-language' or 'European Class' (class with
extras hours of English as a foreign language) provided for French children,
2- Middle schools offering an 'International Section' (30% of classes
taught in English as the instructional language) provided for French children
and possibly international children;
3- International middle schools teaching 50% in English and 50% in French
for International and French children according to international standards as
well as French requirements.
EPIM parents are seeking this third configuration, as much as possible, in view of continuing their children's
international education when they leave our schools.
