On
school day mornings, before nursery school and kindergarten class begins, many
EPIM parents make a habit of taking a moment to read with their child. By
sharing a few moments before starting their own busy day, parents not only
ensure their child will start the day off with confidence, it is also the best
way to prepare children for learning to read.
Research
show that this one simple activity - parents taking time to read aloud - helps
children develop the language skills that they will use in school and
throughout their lives. Furthermore, it will keep kids reading as they learn
and grow by developing a lifelong appreciation for reading.

Parents and other family members need to be involved in their
children's literacy development throughout their school years. Children
succeed best in school when teachers, parents, and children work
together. At the EPIM, we
foster a constructive parent-teacher relationship around each child and
recognize the importance of parent involvement in students'
progress. This is why the EPIM International School Book Club
encourages families to create a reading environment at home. Parents
and other
family members need to be involved in children's reading throughout
their
school years for later success.
